GIF to MP4 converter

Turn an animated GIF into an MP4 video for chats, posts and slides. The animation is the same; the file is much smaller.

Accepts

GIF image (.gif). Other file types are not converted on this page; the File Converter hub takes every kind it knows.

How to convert

  1. The GIF is read by ffmpeg.wasm and encoded as H.264 video in an MP4. The page asks before the engine's first download (about 32 MB), then the browser keeps it.
  2. H.264 needs an even width and height, so an odd size is made one pixel smaller.

Your files stay on this device. Nothing is uploaded: the conversion runs in your browser, and the file is never sent to ITpris Verktyg or to any other server.

Questions

Why is the MP4 smaller?

GIF stores every frame with its own 256 colours. Video compresses what stays the same from frame to frame, so it is usually far smaller.

Is transparency kept?

No. MP4 video has no transparency; see-through areas become black.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, on this device. Your files are not sent to ITpris Verktyg or to any other server.
