PDF Editor guide
Getting started with PDF Editor
PDF Editor edits PDFs in your browser. You open a file, work on its pages, and download a new PDF. The file never leaves your device.
Open a PDF
All pages appear as thumbnails in the Organize view. Each file gets its own colour dot, so you can see where a page came from. The S, M and L buttons and the slider above the pages change the thumbnail size.
- Drop one or more PDFs on the page. Pictures (PNG, JPEG, WebP) work too: each one becomes a page.
- Or choose Open PDFs or images… in the File menu (Ctrl+O, or Cmd+O on a Mac).
- To look around first, click Try a sample.
The tool rail
The rail on the left holds the tools: Organize, Edit page, Sign, Redact, Page numbers, Watermark, Comments, Forms, Compress, Convert, OCR, Split and Metadata.
Click a tool and its settings open in the panel on the right.
Add text, shapes and highlights
Annotations are flattened into the page when you download. Clear page annotations in the panel removes all of them from the page you are on.
- Double-click a page, or click Edit page in the rail, to open the page view.
- Pick a tool in the panel or in the bar above the page. Text is T, Draw is P, Highlighter is H, Rectangle is R and Arrow is A.
- Click the page to place text, or drag to draw a shape.
- Press V for Select & move. Click an annotation to select it, drag it to move it, and use its handles to resize it. Double-click text to edit it.
- Press Escape to go back to all the pages.
Tip: Edit text in place (Ctrl+E) in the Edit menu lets you change the PDF's own text, line by line (Lines) or a whole paragraph at a time (Paragraphs), not just add new text.
Download the PDF
Undo (Ctrl+Z) and Redo (Ctrl+Shift+Z) work for every change until you close the file.
- Type a file name in the name box at the top, if you want a different one.
- Click Download. PDF Editor builds the new file, checks it, and saves it to your device.
