Getting started with Background Remover

Background Remover removes the background from photos with AI that runs in your browser. Your photos are not uploaded and the results have no watermark.

Cut out a photo

1. Drop one or more pictures on the page, click Choose images, or paste one with Ctrl+V. To try it, click Try a sample.
2. The first time, a dialog lists the models. Click Continue. The model is downloaded once and kept in this browser.
3. The background is removed. Each picture gets a thumbnail in the list on the left.

Check and fix the result

Switch the view with Result, Before, Before/after and Mask above the picture.

Pick Keep (K) and paint over parts that should stay, or Remove (R) and paint over parts that should go. Right-drag changes the brush size. Clear brush edits in the Edit menu removes all your strokes.

In Settings, choose the Fast, Quality or Portrait model. Under Edges, Threshold, Softness and Feather change the edge. Decontaminate removes the old background colour from the edges.

Add a background and export

Under Background, keep Transparent, or choose Colour, Gradient or Blur. Shadow adds a drop shadow.

Click Download PNG to save the picture. File, Export… (Ctrl+S) lets you pick PNG, WebP or JPG, and Export all as ZIP… (Shift+Ctrl+S) saves every picture at once.

Open in… sends the result to Image Editor, Vector Editor or Video Editor.

Tip: Videos work too, up to 30 seconds. The result is a WebM with transparency, or an MP4 on a colour.
