Metadata Remover guide

Getting started with Metadata Remover

Metadata Remover shows what a picture reveals, such as where and when it was taken and with which camera, and removes it. The picture itself is not re-encoded, so the quality stays the same. Nothing is uploaded.

Open Metadata Remover

Open pictures

The line at the top counts the pictures, the items found and the items that will be removed.

  1. Click Open pictures… and pick one or more pictures, or drop them on the page.
  2. Metadata Remover reads JPEG, PNG, WebP and TIFF. HEIC, HEIF, AVIF and RAW files are not supported.
  3. Each picture gets a card with a summary line and its metadata, grouped by kind.

Choose what to remove

The What to remove panel on the right applies to every picture. Each kind shows how many items were found.

All kinds are ticked at first, except Print size and resolution (DPI) and Colour profile (ICC). Untick a kind to keep it. On the cards, removed items are struck through.

Remove all ticks the default kinds again. The colour profile and DPI stay as they are.

See every field

  1. Click View metadata on a card.
  2. A window shows the picture and a table of every field: where it is stored, its name and its value.
  3. Click Close.

Save clean copies

Your originals are never changed. Downloads and Files saves are copies with "(clean)" in the name.

  1. Click Copy and clean: download. One picture downloads as a single file; several download as one zip file.
  2. Or click Copy and clean: save to Files… and pick a folder.
  3. On a card, Download and Save to Files… do the same for that picture only. Remove from list takes it off the page.

Tip: Metadata is not what you see. Faces, number plates and street signs stay in the picture. Crop or blur them in an image editor before you share it.
