HTML to PDF guide

Getting started with HTML to PDF

HTML to PDF turns an HTML file, or HTML you paste, into a printed page or a PDF. The file is read in your browser and is never uploaded.

Open HTML to PDF

Open an HTML file or paste HTML

The page appears on a paper-sized preview on the right. Scripts are removed, and links stay as plain text.

  1. Drop an .html or .htm file anywhere on the page.
  2. Or choose Open HTML… at the top (also in the File menu) and pick the file.
  3. Or paste HTML into the Paste HTML box under Source, then choose Use pasted HTML.

Pictures and fonts

Remote images and fonts do not load, because the app loads nothing from the network. Pictures built into the file (data: and blob: images) show as they are.

If the page uses pictures saved next to it, choose them under Local images. Each one is matched to the page by its file name.

Set the paper

The preview changes as soon as you change an option.

  1. Under Paper, choose the Paper size: A4, Letter, A5 or Legal.
  2. Choose the Orientation: Portrait or Landscape.
  3. Choose the Margins: Normal (15 mm), Narrow (6 mm) or None.
  4. Choose the Scale: Fit to width keeps wide pictures and tables on the page; 100 percent keeps their own size.
  5. Tick Background graphics to print background colours and images.

The page header

With Show on every page ticked, each page gets a small header: the file name, the date and a QR code.

Under QR code shows, choose The file name, A URL I type or Custom text. A URL you type is also printed in the header next to the date. Untick Show on every page for a page without a header.

  1. Choose Print or save as PDF… at the top, or press Ctrl+P (Cmd+P on a Mac).
  2. Check the preview in the print window.
  3. Choose Save as PDF, then pick Save as PDF as the destination in the browser's print dialog. Or choose Print to send it to a printer.

Tip: The paper and margins you set in the app are the ones used for the PDF.
