Scan a receipt into an expense

Point your phone at a receipt or pick a photo. A text reader that runs in your browser finds the supplier, date, total and tax, and fills in a new expense for you to check.

How to do it

1. Choose From a receipt… The first time, the text reader is downloaded to this device (you are asked first).
2. Take a photo of the receipt, or choose a picture.
3. Check what was found: supplier, date, amount and tax. Fix anything it misread, and pick the category.
4. Choose Record expense. The photo is kept in Files and linked to the expense.

Your files stay on this device: Expenses runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.

Questions

Is the receipt uploaded to read it?

No. The text reader runs in your browser, on this device. Only the reader itself is downloaded, once, the first time you use it.

What can it read?

The total (from a line such as TOTAL, AMOUNT DUE or the local word), the tax (from a VAT, MOMS, MwSt, IVA, TVA or GST line), the date and the supplier name at the top.

What if it gets something wrong?

Everything it finds goes into the form, not the books. Check each field and correct it before you choose Record expense.
