Make a font from your handwriting

Write the alphabet once on paper and get a font that types in your hand. Font Creator prints the sheet, reads your photo of it and traces every letter on its baseline.

Make a handwriting font

How to do it

  1. In the panel under Handwriting, click Print a sheet…, choose the characters (capitals, small letters, digits…) and the paper, and download the PDF.
  2. Print it at 100%, then write each character in its box with a black pen, standing on the dark line.
  3. Photograph the sheet flat and in good light (or scan it), keeping the four black corner squares in the picture.
  4. Click Read a filled sheet…, choose the photo and the sheet it is: every written box becomes that letter.
  5. Touch up any letter with the Select tool, then Download font.

Your files stay on this device: Font Creator runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.

Questions

Does the photo have to be straight?

No. The four corner squares are found and the page is mapped onto the photo, so a picture taken at a slight angle still reads.

Can I trace just one letter?

Yes. Pick the letter, click Trace a picture… and choose a photo of it; set the ink threshold and the size, and keep the result.

Will the guide lines show up in my letters?

No. They are printed light grey, and the tracer only takes dark ink.

Is my handwriting uploaded?

No. The photo is read and traced in your browser and never leaves your device.
