Find and remove duplicate photos

Imported the same card twice, or copied a folder into another? Gallery fingerprints every photo and groups the exact copies, whatever they are called, so you can keep one and drop the rest.

How to do it

  1. Choose Import photos… or Import a folder…, or drag folders onto the window.
  2. Open Find duplicates…. Each group holds photos with exactly the same bytes.
  3. In each group, pick the copy to keep (the first one added is chosen for you).
  4. Press Delete the extra copies and confirm.

The check is exact: two files count as duplicates only when their contents are identical, using a SHA-256 fingerprint. Edited, resized or re-saved versions of a photo are different files and are not grouped.

Your files stay on this device: Gallery runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.

Questions

Does it find similar photos too?

No. It finds exact copies only. Photos that look alike but were edited, cropped or saved again are not matched.

Are files deleted from my computer?

No. The extra copies are removed from the Gallery library in this browser. The files in your folders are not touched.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The photos are stored in your browser on this device, and the fingerprints are computed there too.
