Ledger guide
Getting started with Ledger
Ledger is the double-entry book behind the business apps. Issued invoices, payments and expenses post to it by themselves; you can add your own entries too.
Post a journal entry
Posted entries are listed below, newest first. Entries made by other apps are marked From a module. A posted entry cannot be changed: Reverse… posts the opposite entry instead.
- On the Journal tab, set the Date and type a Memo.
- On each line, choose an account and type a Debit or a Credit. Choose Add line for more.
- Check the totals under the lines read Balanced, then choose Post entry.
Check the trial balance
The Trial balance tab totals every account and checks that debits equal credits. The General ledger tab shows every line of one account with its running balance. Accounts adds an account with a four-digit code, and Export trial balance (CSV) downloads the table.
Profit and loss and balance sheet
The Statements tab shows the profit and loss for a Period and the balance sheet at its last day. Pick This month, This quarter, This year or your own dates, then choose Print… or Download CSV.
Bank, rates and other programs
The Bank tab imports a statement (CSV, OFX, QFX, QIF, camt.053 or MT940) and matches each line to your books. Rates keeps exchange rates for entries in other currencies. Import SIE… on the Journal tab brings in accounts and vouchers from another accounting program.
