Transcription is a free transcription tool that runs in your browser. Record your voice or drop audio and video files, and Whisper turns the speech into text on your own computer.

How to do it

  1. Open Transcription. There is no account to create.
  2. The first time, press Get more… and confirm the download of the Whisper tiny model (about 40 MB). It is kept in your browser for next time.
  3. Press Record to capture your voice, or drop MP3, WAV, M4A or video files.
  4. Press Transcribe, then correct the text in the box.
  5. Save it as Text, Word, SRT or WebVTT, or open it in Documents.

What Transcription does: speech to text in your browser, for recordings you make with Record or files you drop, up to 2 hours each, in the language you choose or the one it detects. What it does not do: it does not join meetings, label speakers or show text live while you talk. It is a tool for recordings you already have.

Your files stay on this device: Transcription runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.

Do I need an account?

No. Transcription opens in your browser with no sign-up. Your files and transcripts stay on your device unless you download or save them.

Can it record a meeting?

It records from your microphone with Record and transcribes the recording when you stop. It does not join video calls and does not transcribe live.

How accurate is it?

It uses Whisper tiny, a small model that fits in a browser. Clear speech comes out well; names, jargon and noisy rooms cause mistakes, so check the text before you share it.
