Trim or cut a video
Drag the ends of a clip to trim it, or split it at the playhead and delete the part you do not want. Video Editor closes the gap for you and exports a new file.
How to do it
- Open Video Editor and drop your video on the page. It goes onto the timeline.
- To trim, drag the start or the end of the clip on the timeline.
- To cut out the middle, move the playhead to the start of the bad part and press S to split, then split again at its end.
- Select the piece between the two splits and press Shift+Delete to ripple delete it, so the rest closes up.
- Press Export and save an MP4 or a WebM.
Your files stay on this device: Video Editor runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.
Questions
Is the cut frame-accurate?
For MP4 and MOV files, yes: frames are decoded exactly with WebCodecs. Other formats are read by seeking the video, which can be less exact.
Can I export only part of the timeline?
Yes. Set an in point with I and an out point with O, then choose In to out as the Range in Export.
Does it re-encode the video?
Yes. The export encodes a new file on your device, with a Quality setting from Low (small file) to Maximum.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Clips are stored in your browser and the export is encoded on your device, so your footage never leaves it.
