3D file converter

Turn a 3D model into the format the next program wants: STL for a slicer, GLB for the web, OBJ for an editor or USDZ for an iPhone. Everything runs on your device.

Convert a 3D model

How to do it

  1. Drop the model on the converter. Add its companion files in the same drop: an OBJ's .mtl and textures, or a glTF's .bin and pictures.
  2. Pick what to make: STL, OBJ, GLB, glTF, PLY or USDZ.
  3. Set the options if you need them: binary or ASCII, units, the up axis, merging the meshes, keeping animations.
  4. Check the live preview, which shows the input and the converted file in 3D, then download.

Reads OBJ (with MTL), STL (binary and ASCII), PLY (ASCII and binary), glTF, GLB, 3MF, Collada (DAE) and FBX (binary and ASCII). After each conversion the status line says what the new format could not hold, such as materials in an STL or animations in an OBJ.

Your files stay on this device: File Converter runs in your browser, with no upload, no account and no watermark.

Questions

Are my models uploaded?

No. The models are read and written in your browser. Only a compressed glTF needs a decoder, which is downloaded once and checked before it runs.

What gets lost when I convert?

It depends on the format: STL keeps only triangles, PLY keeps one mesh with its vertex colours, OBJ has no animation. The page lists what was left out.

Can I convert many files at once?

Yes. Drop several models together and each one becomes its own file; download them one by one or as a zip.

My model is the wrong size or lies on its side. Can I fix that?

Yes. Use the Units option (for example millimetres to metres) and the Up axis option (Z up to Y up) while converting.
